🎬 Miss Takes Film Club: Honorable Mentions Showcase

A Curated Celebration of Emerging College Filmmakers

Event Overview

The Honorable Mentions Showcase is a non-competitive screening event dedicated to highlighting authentic voices and bold storytellers from college filmmakers across the region.

Selected films will be publicly screened, followed by a live Q&A session with the filmmaker(s). While the spotlight will primarily be on the director or writer, cast and crew members are welcome to join the discussion, time permitting.

This is not a competition—there are no prizes or rankings. The focus is on exposure, community, and creative dialogue among emerging filmmakers.

• Final (Late) Deadline: November 24, 2025 – 11:59 PM CST

🎥 Eligibility

Submissions are open to current college students, including Spring 2025 graduates, from the following institutions:

• Houston City College

• University of Houston

• Texas Southern University

• Lone Star College

• MediaTech Institute

• Rice University

• Sam Houston State University

• Lamar University (Beaumont)

• Louisiana State University

• Oklahoma City Community College

• Tulsa Community College

• Central New Mexico Community College

📤 Submission Details

• Accepted Formats: Short films, documentaries, commercials, music videos, animation

• Runtime: 1–20 minutes

• Submission Limit: Up to 2 entries per filmmaker

• Year of Production: All content must be produced in 2025

• Who Can Submit: Only the director or writer of the film

Miss Takes Social Hour - Picnic Brunch in the Park!

Take a break from the hustle of film sets and festivals! Join us for a relaxed picnic brunch in the park to unwind, connect, and enjoy good food and conversation with fellow filmmakers and crew.

Bring your favorite brunch bites, a cozy blanket, and maybe a lawn game or two—or just come to relax and recharge. It’s the perfect mid-morning escape to catch up, share stories, and soak in some fresh air before the week picks up again.

☀️ Weather Plan: If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll meet up at a nearby bar or grill instead—or cancel if conditions are too rough. We’ll send an update before the event if plans change.

A One-Day Film Experiment: Scripted Scenes, Improv, & Creativity on the Fly

🎞️ What Is Wild Takes?

Wild Takes is a fast-paced, improv-inspired film day where we throw the script out the window (after we’ve filmed it, of course).
You’ll start with a short scripted scene and move into fully improvised group and solo segments — all captured on camera.

No experience needed. Just come ready to create, collaborate, and take a few wild swings.

🎬 Part 1: Scripted Scene – The Neighbors

Written & Directed by: Samuel Robles (writer/director)

Official Cast:

• Laney – Ama Udugamasooriya

• Tristen – Raquael Torres

• Mr. Tuskegee – Glen Jordan

• Mrs. Tuskegee – Cici Blanco

We’ll be filming this original short as our opening piece — and then building from it in the improv rounds.

🎭 Part 2: Group Improv

Open to everyone!
Choose a character or get a prompt from us. Keep the energy and reality going as long as it feels believable — we’ll film until it doesn’t.

🎤 Part 3: Solo Improv – Confessionals

Step into the confessional booth in character — your moment to spill secrets, dreams, frustrations, or twisted logic.

We’ll guide you, or you can create your own on the spot.
It’s fun. It’s chaotic. It’s Miss Takes at its best.

🍽️ Good Vibes + Good Food

This is a 100% volunteer-based production.
We’ll provide a delicious meal as a thank you for your time, energy, and talent. 💛

Miss Takes Actor’s Studio is a creative space for actors to rehearse, experiment, and grow in a supportive environment. Whether you're preparing for auditions, working through a monologue, or just honing your craft, these sessions are designed to give you the time, space, and feedback you need to improve.

We offer filmed rehearsal sessions that actors can use for personal review or as part of their demo reels. Sessions are collaborative, non-commercial, and focused on helping performers build confidence and skill.
