A Curated Screening for Emerging College Filmmakers
The Honorable Mentions Showcase began at Houston Community College, where founders Amanda Borva and Vanessa Provencio wanted to create space for student films that hadn’t had the chance to be seen, giving filmmakers a platform to share their work and discuss it with their peers.
Now entering its fourth year, the showcase continues to grow, expanding to more campuses across state lines. What started as a small initiative to uplift overlooked or in-progress projects has become a vibrant celebration of bold storytelling and authentic student voices.
This is not about rankings or awards, it is about recognition without pressure, creative conversation, and building community. We spotlight emerging filmmakers from across the Southwest and beyond who are using film to move hearts, challenge norms, and speak their truth.
