Meet the visionaries behind Miss Takes Film Club

About Miss Takes Film Club

Founded in October 2023 by Houston Community College alumni Amanda Borvá and Vanessa Provencio, Miss Takes Film Club was created to give students and alumni hands-on experience in film production.. The name reflects the club’s core values—creativity, safety, growth, storytelling, and community impact—values that guide every project. Miss Takes is run entirely by volunteers and continues to support emerging filmmakers in Houston and beyond—helping them turn creative ideas into real-world experience.

The club’s first film production took place on May 20, 2024, at HCC, where the crew filmed promotional scenes for the college’s film program. Expanding beyond its roots as a school club, Miss Takes became a nonprofit in September 2024 and earned 501(c)(3) status in December 2024.

Key Contributors

Amanda Borvá helped shape the creative heartbeat of the club from the beginning—leading social media, organizing Writers’ Studio meetups, and supporting productions. Her short film Isabel was screened at the 2025 Houston Latino Film Festival. She also partnered with Chase Manor to host social hours that bring creatives together in welcoming, community-focused spaces.

Chase supports outreach efforts, including hosting trivia nights and planning the 2026 field day. Carmen Reeves leads grant writing, fundraising, and helps manage day-to-day operations.

Vanessa Provencio has shaped the club’s structure and growth—from legal and financial systems to creative programming. She redesigned Wild Takes, featured at the 58th WorldFest International Film Festival, and launched both the Miss Takes Fitness Club and Cycle and Scene, a bike ride and writers’ meetup that blends wellness with artistic reflection.

Looking Ahead

Miss Takes continues to grow with a focus on expanding Writers’ Studio meetups, increasing hands-on pre-production opportunities, submitting collaborative work to film festivals, and developing content for its original web series. The club also aims to nurture leadership among active members and foster a supportive environment for filmmakers of all backgrounds.

Rooted in growth and fueled by community, Miss Takes is a space where creative risks are welcomed, stories are valued, and the next generation of filmmakers can thrive.
