Meet the visionaries behind Miss Takes Film Club
Miss Takes Film Club is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit open to anyone who loves storytelling and wants to be part of a creative community. We create real opportunities in film production — from acting and writing to directing, producing, and everything in between.
The name "Miss Takes" reflects our core values: creativity, collaboration, growth, safety, and meaningful community impact. We're not just filmmakers. We're a community of creatives dedicated to building something bigger, starting in Houston and expanding our impact across cities, states, and countries.
Whether you're a seasoned filmmaker or simply curious about what it's like to be on set, Miss Takes is open to everyone.
Our History
Miss Takes was born from a real problem. Too many talented, passionate people wanted to work in film but couldn't find consistent opportunities to do so. Some were working too much to pursue their craft. Others weren't working enough to stay connected to the industry. Either way, momentum was being lost.
Vanessa Provencio, an HCC alumni, and Amanda Borvá, then an HCC student, set out to change that. What started as a conversation quickly became a vision. In October 2023 that vision became real, the name was chosen, the logo was created, and Miss Takes Film Club was born.
They considered starting a school club but quickly realized a nonprofit would allow them to reach further, serve more people, and build something that could outlast any single campus or semester.
Our first film production was shot on May 20, 2024, at HCC, filming promotional scenes for the college's film program. By September 2024, Miss Takes became an official nonprofit, earning 501(c)(3) status in December 2024, setting the foundation to serve aspiring artists and storytellers across communities far beyond Houston.
Founders
Amanda Borvá and Vanessa Provencio co-founded Miss Takes Film Club in 2023 with a shared vision: to create space for students and emerging creatives to collaborate, experiment, and grow through filmmaking.
Amanda Borvá played a key role in shaping the early creative identity of Miss Takes through initial productions, social media, the Writers' Studio program, and showcases like Honorable Mentions. Her contributions remain an important part of the club's foundation and ongoing inspiration. While Amanda has stepped back from the club, her seat as co-founder will always be hers.
Vanessa Provencio doesn't just lead Miss Takes, she built it. From working with attorneys to legally structure and protect the organization, to designing its operational foundation, to securing funding, Vanessa has shaped every pillar of what Miss Takes stands on. She oversees film productions and serves as producer on most of them, bringing both vision and execution to every project. Her vision is to take what started in Houston and expand it into a national creative community, one that opens real doors for anyone who wants to be part of the world of film.
