Event Description

The Honorable Mentions Showcase is a curated screening dedicated to emerging college filmmakers, highlighting bold, original work from students across the region. Created to give a platform to films that may not have had the opportunity to be seen elsewhere, the showcase centers on visibility, creative exchange, and community.

Audiences can expect a diverse lineup of short films, documentaries, commercials, and music videos—each offering a unique perspective and voice. More than a screening, this event creates space for connection, conversation, and the celebration of authentic storytelling.

Eligibility & Submission Overview

Submissions are open to current college students or individuals who graduated in Spring 2026 from the following institutions:
University of Houston · Texas Southern University · Houston Community College · Lone Star College · San Jacinto College · Alvin Community College · Rice University · Sam Houston State University · Lamar University (Beaumont) · Louisiana State University · University of New Orleans

Submission Requirements:

• Films must be produced between 2025–2026

• Films must not have been previously screened in the Honorable Mentions Showcase

• Accepted formats: short films, documentaries, commercials, and music videos

• Runtime: 1–20 minutes

• Only the director or writer may submit

• Maximum of two submissions per filmmaker

Deadlines:

• Regular Deadline: October 31, 2026

• Final Deadline: November 20, 2026
  All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST. Late submissions will not be accepted.
