Miss Takes Original Productions | Miss Takes Film Club

🎥 Miss Takes Original Productions

Miss Takes Productions is our in-house production program, giving cast and crew hands-on experience in every stage of filmmaking — from pre-production through post and distribution.

Our projects range from Wild Takes improv productions to fully scripted works developed in the Miss Takes Writers' Studio. Everything we film is edited and shared on our website and YouTube channel @MissTakesCreates.

We also produce What's That Take? — community story interviews with Houston organizations, giving members hands-on experience in storytelling and community engagement.

Select projects are specifically developed and filmed for the film festival circuit. Writers agreements include the distribution path of each film, ensuring clarity and intentionality from the page to the screen. Whether you're building your first reel or bringing years of experience, Miss Takes Productions is a space to create, collaborate, and be credited for meaningful work.

🌐Distribution

Stories start in the Writers' Studio with a shared theme. Writers collaborate and refine until the script is production-ready. Pre-production covers scheduling, locations, permits, props, and wardrobe. On set, every department works together to bring the director's vision to life. Post-production covers editing, color, sound, and music. Completed projects are released on our website, YouTube, local free screenings, and select festival circuits.

How it works

1

Script selection

Scripts come from the Writers' Studio. Participation does not guarantee production — reviewed for readiness, mission alignment, and production capacity.

2

Casting & crew calls

Cast submit self-tape auditions. Crew members select up to 3 roles via a form. All participants must be Miss Takes members (free). Rehearsals via Zoom or in person.

3

Film, edit & share

Projects are filmed, edited, and published on our website, YouTube, and submitted to film festivals where applicable.

4

Professionalism first

NDAs, deal memos, and production agreements required for all participants to ensure clarity and accountability.

Production selection process

The scripts we produce are written by active Miss Takes Writers' Studio members — people who have shown up, contributed to the community, and created work that genuinely reflects our values. This program was not designed as a shortcut to production.

Miss Takes Productions is a community endeavor in the truest sense. Writers, directors, cast, and crew each bring their best to a shared vision. No single voice dominates. The story serves the community — and the community serves the story.

Scripts are evaluated on readiness, mission fit, and production capacity. Membership in the Writers' Studio is a prerequisite, not a guarantee. If your script is selected, it means the community believes in it — and that community will show up for it.

All projects are reviewed and approved by our Showrunners — the Miss Takes Officers — and where necessary, require the approval of the Miss Takes Board of Directors. Every production that moves forward does so with full organizational backing.

Film festival circuit

Development slate

Festival circuit projects go through a thorough, intentional development process. This takes time — and that's by design. Every stage is built to give participants real, guided experience and to ensure the film is ready before a single frame is shot.

1

Script development & table read

The script is developed and brought to a table read. Notes are gathered, rewrites are done, and the script is locked when it's truly production-ready.

2

Script breakdown & budget

Once locked, the script is broken down scene by scene. A detailed budget is built alongside it to understand exactly what the production needs.

3

Director's binder

The director develops a full creative vision document — shot list, visual references, lighting approach, wardrobe direction, and the film's overall look, feel, and sound. Music and tone are defined here so every department has a shared creative language before production begins.

4

Fundraising proposal

A fundraising proposal is built to support the production. This stage takes time and is treated with the same care as the creative work — because getting the film made well requires the right resources.

5

Casting & crew

Character descriptions are written, casting calls go out, and auditions are held. Once cast is confirmed, rehearsals begin. Crew is secured in parallel — matched to roles based on skills, interests, and availability.

6

Production secured & filming

Locations and filming dates are locked. All cast and crew are fed on every production day. Days are capped at 10 hours. Where possible, incentives are provided — because the people who show up and do the work deserve to be taken care of.

A note on timeline: Festival circuit projects span 2–3 years. That is not a delay — it is the process. Every participant is guided, every role is developed with intention, and the film is given the time it needs to be done right.

On set with Miss Takes

Miss Takes Productions are professional, welcoming, and built on mutual respect.

Come preparedEvery member will be briefed and prepared for their role before we step on set. When production day arrives, we expect everyone to arrive ready — focused, present, and committed to doing their best work.

Support the director's visionThe director's vision is the north star of every production. Every department, every decision, and every creative contribution should serve and elevate that vision. We succeed together when we align behind it.

Respect on setWe hold ourselves to a standard of professionalism and decency at all times. We communicate with patience and respect — there is no place for raised voices or disrespectful behavior on a Miss Takes set.

Safety firstThe wellbeing of our cast and crew is non-negotiable. Set days are capped at 10 hours. We secure permits for all locations that require them and carry production insurance on every project.

Trust & accountabilityWe operate on a foundation of trust, integrity, and shared responsibility. Every production is protected by signed agreements — writers agreements, deal memos, NDAs, and location agreements — ensuring clarity for everyone involved.

Leadership on every set — Every Miss Takes production will have a designated Showrunner — a Miss Takes Officer who oversees the day-to-day operations of our productions and programs — present on set at all times. Our Board Members, who govern the compliance and integrity of our nonprofit, may also be present on set in a support capacity. Together, they ensure that our standards of safety, professionalism, and respect are upheld from the first day of pre-production to the final day of shooting.
Zero tolerance policy — Miss Takes has a zero tolerance policy for harassment, abuse, or disrespectful conduct of any kind. Any violation of this standard will result in immediate removal from the production, no exceptions.
These are not just words — they are the standard we hold ourselves and every member to, on every production, without exception.
