Miss Takes Productions
Miss Takes Productions is our in-house production program, giving cast and crew hands-on experience in every stage of filmmaking. Our projects range from Wild Takes improv productions, including solo confessional scenes, group improv, and short scripts (3–6 pages), to fully scripted works developed in our Miss Takes Writers’ Studio. Each project is filmed, edited, and shared on our website and YouTube channel: @MissTakesCreates.
We also produce What’s That Take?, a community stories segment where we interview organizations in Houston to highlight their work. This gives our cast and crew first-hand experience conducting interviews and storytelling, while connecting members with the local creative and nonprofit community.
We hold casting and crew calls for each project, allowing participants to work in different departments and gain real experience in pre-production, filming, and post-production. Projects typically take 3–4 months, while our film festival initiatives may span 2–3 years to ensure proper guidance, rehearsal, and role mastery for each participant.
Originally, we filmed officer-written scripts monthly, with some projects still in post-production. This year, we aim for faster post to screen timelines on our website, YouTube, and film festivals, while giving participants hands-on guidance to master their roles. NDAs, deal memos, and other agreements are required for participation to ensure professionalism and clarity.
All positions are 100% volunteer and unpaid, with meals provided, 8–10 hour workdays, and production costs covered, including locations, permits, and equipment. As a young organization, we are continuously refining our process to provide every participant practical skills, real-world experience, and mentorship in a supportive creative environment, helping them grow as filmmakers and collaborators.
Production Selection Process
Miss Takes Productions develops and produces select in-house projects created through our Writers’ Studio. Participation in the studio does not guarantee production. Scripts are reviewed and approved based on readiness, alignment with our mission, and production capacity.
